Question

For all of you experienced moms out there, just one quick question.

When does the "dump everything out all over the place" phase end for toddlers?  And dare I ask... what stage comes next?

I'm so tired of picking up blocks and toys.  It's making me insane!

Can I just say I am laughing out loud right now!!! I would give you some timelines, but let's face it, I think Ella has a mind of her own. Good Luck! Sure miss you all!

Hmmm...let me tell you about a few things this week that I have dealt with having a two year old.

-cinnamon all over my girls carpet and bedspread
-onion powder all over the floor
-pam kitchen spray on the sheets
-an entire bottle of dishsoap on my tile
-my new (expensive) face lotion all over Jareds hair and body
-dropped bottle of pickles broken on the kitchen floor

Yes this was all in the last five days. You got to love kids. ;-) Now this may not be an average week, this type of thing does happen from time to time. I wish I had some insight to help you with the next stages in Ellas life, good luck and enjoy her no matter what she may do. Because no matter what any of my kids may do that drive me crazy I love them and try to take a picture before I get too mad! ;-)

I love my kids but the messes don't end. My boys, especially, are very destructive. Just in the past two days they have: pulled the curtains off and broke the rods, pulled the closet door off the track, which then fell off and put a hole in the wall, dumped baby powder all over, wrote all over the wall, etc.

I've just realized that I cannot be absolutely OCD about a house that is absolutely picked up all the time.

However, the older two are getting better about putting their things away. Certain things have to be put away exactly where they go when they are done(books, all art/school supplies, everything in the kitchen, etc.) They are allowed to pretty much have their play room how they want it. But, everywhere else has to be pretty well picked up.

Jones and Miles are also at the age where they are helping with the housework. Get them started early and praise them for helping. They help empty the dishwasher, wash down the mirrors and sinks, vacuum, clean the sliding doors, sweep, put laundry away, etc. They don't always like to do it but they have to help some everyday.

Oh, and FYI, vinegar is a great cleanser and non-toxic so it is a great thing to put in a spray bottle and have the kids help clean that way. Just store that away when Ella is big enough to help!

Thanks for all of the helpful feedback, even if it is slightly scary to think about what Ella may get into in the future. I think you're right. Being OCD is not going to help. I'll just have to mellow out a little (that's what Shaun always says).

Well! I remember when it was only the DVDs and the two lower book shelves. That was when she was two. No purpose other then emptying the shelves. Now at 5 she dumps/ gets out everything and has a reason. "But the million tiny boxes from the storage room are for the shoppers." "I had to dump the stuff out to use it as their bed."
